SOCHUM

United Nations General Assembly Third Committee - Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM)

Agenda - Addressing the rise of loneliness, mental health challenges and social isolation among youth in the digital era.

The rapid expansion of digital technologies and social media has transformed how young people interact, learn and build relationships. While these platforms have increased connectivity, they have also contributed to rising levels of loneliness, anxiety, depression and social isolation among youth worldwide. Factors such as excessive screen time, online comparison, cyberbullying and reduced face-to-face interaction have raised serious humanitarian concerns. SOCHUM will examine the social and psychological impact of digital environments on young people and explore policy measures to promote mental well-being, responsible technology use and inclusive support systems while respecting cultural diversity and freedom of expression.
