United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)

Agenda - Addressing human rights challenges arising from misinformation, disinformation and deepfake technologies.

The rapid spread of misinformation, disinformation and deepfake technologies has significantly impacted the enjoyment of fundamental human rights, including the right to privacy, freedom of expression, access to accurate information and democratic participation. Digitally manipulated content can be used to incite hatred, influence elections, damage reputations and suppress dissent, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities and human rights defenders. The Human Rights Council will examine the implications of these technologies on human rights and explore measures to promote transparency, accountability, media literacy and international cooperation, while ensuring that efforts to counter false information do not undermine freedom of expression or legitimate political discourse.
